First Two Days Out-So Far So Good
We get a late start, but are on our way. We head out through Susanville to Hwy. 36 to Hwy. 44 to Hwy. 89. We try stopping at Burney Falls for a lunch stop, only to have them tell us it would be $15.00 just to drive in because we are towing a vehicle. We say no thanks and continue on for a few miles and stop at Britton Lake. It is run by PG & E and was free to use a picnic table right on the lake and nice clean bathroom. It is really smokey here though from the forest fire. We continue on and you can hardly see Mt. Shasta because it is so smokey. We end the day just out of Cottage Grove, Oregon. We stay at a campground called Pine Meadows right on a lake, with nice bathrooms, showers, firewood for the fire pit, pull through site and fresh blackberries to pick for breakfast to go along with the fish we didn’t catch! We had mac and cheese made on the coleman stove instead and then to bed in the van.
Today we were up at 6:00, had breakfast watching the mist rise off the lake and then on our way. Nothing too exciting about driving up I-5. We make it to Anacortes and meet new people Loren and Norma Knutsen who so very graciously have offered to let us leave Tin Lizzie on the trailer in their yard while we go to the San Juan Islands for the weekend. Staying in a motel tonight in Burlington.
